American College Dance Festival Association

The Department of Theatre and Dance is a member of the American College Dance Festival Association, which sponsors the National College Dance Festival. The festival showcases work from regional festivals across the country at gala concerts that take place at the Kennedy Center’s Terrace Theater. The department’s University Dancers have performed at the last two festivals, showcasing pieces choreographed by Robert Battle of Battleworks Dance Company in New York City.

The ACDFA also sponsors regional festivals that offer students the opportunity to engage in workshops, lectures, demonstrations and master classes taught by instructors from around the country.

At both the regional and national festivals, students benefit from having their work adjudicated by a panel of nationally recognized dance professionals in an open and constructive forum. Students learn what other dancers across the country are doing and how they can improve the work they are doing on their own campuses.
