The Department of Theatre and Dance offers students the kind of pre-professional training that makes them successful on the stage, in television and on the big screen, as well as in a range of careers that relate to the performing arts. The department offers the following degrees:
• Bachelor of Arts in Theatre
• Minor in Theatre
• Minor in Dance
The theatre and dance curriculum emphasizes teamwork, communication, close collaboration between faculty and students, discipline and leadership. Students work hard in a professional environment that still manages to remain firmly rooted in the liberal arts tradition. Professors establish relationships between the study of theatre and dance and courses in other disciplines like English, modern languages, history and even physics.
Because of the department’s commitment to providing every student, regardless of career goals, with a solid liberal arts education, faculty members encourage students to participate in experiential learning opportunities that take place on and off the stage. Research, internships and study abroad experiences help many students discover what’s next.
