Honors

Honors Program

Outstanding students with intellectual initiative and the desire to pursue academic achievement beyond standard coursework have the opportunity to broaden and deepen knowledge in selected major fields through the Honors Program. To qualify, a student should have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, 18 or more units completed and, excluding coursework primarily for first-year students, 3.5 or more units completed with distinction in the major field. To graduate with Honors, students must have attained a departmental GPA of 3.30 by the beginning of the fall semester of the senior year. The student also must maintain that GPA through the completion of the program and an overall GPA of no less than 3.0 while in the program.

Timeline

Fall Semester (Junior Year)

Interested students consult with Department of Theatre and Dance faculty about their intention to apply to the Honors Program.

Spring Semester (Junior Year)

Students meet with potential faculty advisors to discuss the type of thesis they would like to produce. The should contact the Department Chair to receive the Honors Program application form and submit it by February 15. They receive official acceptance in the program in March or April and are assigned a faculty advisor for their Honors work. It is possible for a student to take one of the two courses with an Honors component during the spring semester. Those courses require students to do additional work over and above the normal requirements of the course.

Fall Semester (Senior Year)

Students accepted in the Honors Program register for THTR380 (Honors Thesis Preparation). They take one of the two courses with an Honors component.

Spring Semester (Senior Year)

Honors student take THTR481 (Honors Performance/Thesis). They take one of the two courses with an Honors component.
